Kitesurfing at Aitutaki, Cook Islands
Aitutaki is “heaven on earth” for kite boarders with warm and perfectly flat turquoise blue water in a massive lagoon with multiple islands (most uninhabited) to launch from.
The trade winds occur between May and October with winds strengths most days of 15 – 30 knots however the area also benefits from passing low pressure systems in the tropical belt outside of these months.
To access the best kitesurfing spots around the Aitutaki lagoon requires a boat transfer. Launching typically takes place from beautiful white sandy beaches.
One of the best spots in the Aitutaki lagoon for learners and improvers is Honeymoon Island.
A holiday to Aitutaki is not just about the kitesurfing but also a fabulous cultural experience with wonderful, hospitable people and if the wind doesn’t blow you will find some incredible snorkelling, scuba diving and fishing.
