Callala Bay, Jervis Bay (NSW, Australia)
Callala Bay is on the northern side of Jervis Bay on the NSW South Coast approximately 200km (3 hours drive) south of Sydney.
This spot offers good flat-water-blasting and bump-and-jump for both windsurfers and kitesurfers.
Callala Bay works best in a S or SE breeze where the water in-close is protected by the Callala Point reef providing for some great flat-water-blasting. Further out you will find some swell and chop for bump-and-jump.
During summer the most predominant wind is from the NE. The breeze comes across the land in this direction so it can be a little gusty. Collingwood Beach to the south is cleaner when blowing from the NE.
Access & Launching
Park & launch south of the boat ramp near the Jervis Bay Sailing Club.
This spot is protected by the headland and there is a nice grassy area for rigging and sandy beach for launching.
When the wind is southerly, it is sheltered by the headland so you may have to wade out a bit to get to the wind.
From here, tack up towards the reef where you will find blissful flat water and clean wind. Or sail straight in/out from the boat ramp for some great for blasting and bump-and-jump as you get further out.
Hazards
Beware of the reef as it is very shallow in some spots.
Be sure to stay out of the moored boats to the north of the boat ramp as there is plenty to get tangled up in.
This area can be sharky so keep an eye out however no sailors have ever been attacked.
