Le Sands - Botany Bay
This spot is located south of the Brighton Le Sands hotel on Botany Bay near Sydney.
It is a very popular spot for Sydney kitesurfers wanting to sail flat water.
The spot works best in a NE breeze (most common summer breeze) but can also work in a S & SE breeze.
Access & Launching
There is parking on the beach opposite Solander Street.
You can also access by public transport: catch the train to Rockdale station and then catch the 478 bus…or you can catch the 303 bus from the city.
The sand beach is wide and open which is ideal for launching however it can get busy with other kites and beach goers. On busy days spots can be found a short walk south that won’t be so busy.
As this spot is just south of the Sydney airport, there are stringent rules about where you can kite. You must not sail north of President Avenue. If you do so you will be slugged with a fine of $500 by the water police.
The launching area backs on to a very busy road and there are trees in the area so please be very careful when rigging and launching.
Please don’t self-launch and self-land when there are other kiters at this beach. Local kiters are more than happy to help you launch and land your kite.
Also be careful of crowds of beachgoers, swimmers, and other kiters.
The following companies provide kitesurfing lessons in the area:
