Shingle Splitters, Lake Macquarie (NSW, Australia)
Windsurfing at Shingle Splitters, Lake Macquarie
Shingle Splitters is located in the SW corner of Lake Macquarie near Bonnells Bay and is another windsurfing only spot due to the lack of areas for rigging & launching for kiters.
The spot is ideal for flat-water-blasting and bump-and-jump.
The best breeze is a NE but also works in a N, SW and W.
A westerly can be gusty but you can tack up into Bonnells Bay the water can be nice and flat.
Watch out for sharp rocks, shells and Razor Fish (which are actually a sharp plant that can cut feet like a knife; said to be similar to oyster shell cuts) so booties are highly recommended but be careful as it can even cut through booties. Evidently if you launch from the NW side of the boat ramp you are less likely to step on Razor Fish.
Park right out on the spit at the end of Queen Street where you will find a grassy rigging area, BBQ facilities, public toilets & kids playground.
