Wallagoot Lake (NSW Australia)
Wallagoot Lake in Bournda National Park, is about 20km (15 mins drive) north of Merimbula on the NSW South Coast.
The lake is partially tidal (although can be cut-off from the ocean for long periods) and the water brackish in colour.
If you are looking for some flat water blasting this spot can be good in a S/SE or NE/E breeze.
Access & Launching
For a S/SE breeze, the best location for rigging & launching is from the Sailing Club located at the northern end of the lake. Accessed via the Wallagoot Road. There is free parking right on the lake, a good grassy area to rig, public toilets, a BBQ/ shelter shed and some nice shady trees. The water here is also very safe for swimming for the kids.
On a NE/E breeze, head to the Scotts Point park located in the SW side of the lake. This is accessed via Bournda Rd and you will see a sign to the left. Here you will find a lovely grassy area for rigging, public toilets, BBQ facilities & picnic tables. As this is inside the national park there is a small day visitors fee.
Another option on a NE breeze is from the Hobart Beach Campground however access to the water is pretty tight through the trees.
Where To Stay
This is really a place you would visit on a day trip if you were staying in Merimbula or Tathra.
However the Hobart Beach Campground is a rustic camping option in the Bournda National Park. There are no powdered sites however there are toilets, showers, a communal BBQ shelter and laundry facilities. Each site also has a fire pit for cooking.
