Yamba - The Peninsula (NSW, Australia)
Wing Foiling & Windsurfing at the Peninsula at Yamba
When the wind swings around to the SE, this is a good spot for wing foiling and possibly also windsurfing in Yamba. If the wind is blowing from the NE, Whiting Beach is a better option.
This lovely secluded beach is dog friendly so you can take your pooch with you.
The water is protected and a beginner would find this to be a great spot (although Whiting Beach would be better for beginners as it has more of a mellow gradient into the water).
There is not a lot of room for rigging kites here so I would say it would only be suited to windsurfing and wing foiling.
Access, Rigging & Launching
Drive down “The Peninsula” road at Yamba and just before the turn-around at the end of the road, you will see a blue “walkway” sign on the right-hand-side between a couple of houses. The walkway is unpaved grass.
It is about 150m to the water’s edge so a trolly might be handy if you have one.
At the water’s edge you will find a lovely grassy area with shady trees. There is a thin strip of white sand that drops off steeply into the water.
Potential Hazards
There is a sand bar that runs out from the southern end of Rabbit Island so just be aware of that particularly if you are foiling.
There is a bit of current to deal with and as usual with all Australian coastal waters be aware of sharks.
