Windsurfing & Kitesurfing at Happy Valley, Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast works best in a S or SE breeze as the headland blocks the northerly winds.
Due to the strong current it is best on an outgoing tide as it gets very choppy on the inbound tide. Golden beach is a better option on the rising tide and lower winds.
This spot is located just outside of the river mouth ideal for flat water sailing and bump-and-jump on small waves.
Just be aware that the current can get very strong here so hang on to your gear at all cost.
Access, Rigging & Launching
Happy Valley has 2 locations where you can rig & launch from; the most popular spot is next to the park on the sand and you will find plenty of assistance to help you launch.
To access the spot, drive along the Esplanade on the northern side of the bridge towards the head of the river mouth. Turn right into Clark Place Park and there is lots of parking along the grass rigging area.
The other option for rigging & launching is over at the lifeguard building further up-stream which can be good for advanced flat water & freeride sailors. Rigging is on the sand here as opposed to grass.
