Bastion Point, Mallacoota (VIC, Australia)
Bastion Point is located on the ocean just south of Mallacoota township (about 1 km).
This spot is suited to windsurfers and kitesurfers who want to ride the waves.
There is a point break around the rock wall of the harbour which is said to be quite good when it is on.
The best wind direction here would be SE however an E should also work.
Due to the potential hazards here I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners.
Access, Rigging & Launching
Access via the Bastion Point Rd, south of Mallacoota town, where you will find a sealed car park right on the water.
There is a nice sheltered bay which doesn’t look like it would get much shore break with a SE or E wind so launching should be pretty easy.
The sandy beach is quite large so there is plenty of room for kites and windsurfers to rig.
Potential Hazards
There is quite a bit of current once you get out of the bay so be aware of this.
The waves look like they could be quite gnarly at times so best to sail with a friend when it is like this.
The bay itself has a bit of a reef (which can be easily avoided) but watch out for fin strikes.
