Windsurfing at Paynesville Foreshore
Paynesville Foreshore (also referred to as “Paynesville Main Beach”) is the main beach area in the boating town of Paynesville located approximately 300 km ( 3.5 hours drive) east of Melbourne on the Gippsland Lakes.
This is a great spot for windsurfing & wing foiling as it is one of the windiest places in southern Australia. It is most ideal when the wind blows from the east or west. 20-30 knots south westerlies and easterlies are quite common in Summer which usually kick in around 2pm each afternoon!
The expanse of water here is huge and is great for slalom, bump-and-jump and foiling.
If you have a long-board and are in to touring, sailing up to Metung or around Raymond Island can be a lot of fun.
Access & Launching
There is a large sealed car park right on the beach where you will find plenty of space for rigging on a grassy area adjacent to the sandy beach.
Launching is from a sandy beach which can sometimes have a bit of a shore break making the launch a little tricky.
You will also find public toilets and a kids playground at this spot.
Where to Stay
Paynesville itself is a spectacular destination with an abundance of wildlife and natural beauty.
The moderately sized boating town has a few restaurants & bars and a good variety of accommodation options including holiday apartments & homes (some with a private jetty at the back-door) & bed n breakfasts. There are no holiday parks in Paynesville however there is a good park about 7 mins drive back towards Bairnsdale at Eagle Point.
