Beaumaris Yacht Club/Ricketts Point North Wing Foiling, Kite and Windsurfing

Ricketts Point North, is located at the north end of the carpark at Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary, in front of the Beaumaris Yacht Club on the southeast side of Port Phillip Bay near Melbourne, Victoria.

This spot needs local knowledge, read below to find out more, but is considered by some, as one of the best wave spots on the bay, for a southerly wind in a high tide.

Best Wind/Season

This spot works in best at high tide in south-west or southerly breeze, so will work more in the summer sea breezes and can be good for wave jumping/bump and jump & also for flat water sailing depending on the tide and conditions, as there is a reef that generates ramps on the waves on the outside and protects the water on the inside of the reef.

Potential Sailing Hazards

As there is a quite a bit of reef it is advisable to wear booties, if you need to get on and off the board often. The reef that runs full width of the beach with a small gap in the middle marked by posts.

At high tide you can sail over the reef in most places, but at low tide it is very tricky and you need to know where the rocks are. It is highly recommended, that you to talk to a local here before heading out as it can be quite dangerous and costly if you hit the reef.

This spot is not recommended for beginners.

Access, Rigging & Launching

Access is best via the car park to the north of Rickett’s Point Beachside Café, and immediately adjacent to the Beaumaris Yacht Club

Facilities

At the other end of the carpark there is a Rickett’s Point Beachside Café, which does food and drinks. There are also public toilets in the carpark and BBQ facilities for an Après sail celebration.
