Shallow Inlet (Victoria, Australia)
Shallow Inlet (not to be confused with Sandy Point) is a very small village on the north eastern side of Shallow Inlet.
It is approximately 3 hours drive from Melbourne and just a few kilometres from Yanakie.
Located on the opposite side of the inlet to Sandy Point, it offers a couple of lovey channels with flat water when the wind blows from the W and the N.
This spot is particularly good for kitesurfers as they can sail right up against the sand banks at low tide in super flat water.
The channel is deep enough for slalom boards however a weed fin is recommended as you are likely to pick up some weed on your fin.
It would be suited to all levels of sailors however for beginners the water and sandy bottom is a lot nicer at Sandy Point.
Access & Launching
There is a free car park right at the launch area behind the Shallow Inlet Caravan Park.
The only facility there is a drop-toilet.
For kitesurfers there is plenty of room in front of the car park to rig and launch.
For windsurfers there is a small grassy area next to the car park.
At low tide it is about 100m walk to the channel edge.
Local Services
Services are pretty limited as is no café or shop in this village.
There is however a caravan park and a bush camping area (Shallow Inlet Camping & Recreation Reserve) right near the launching area.
Both the caravan park and the camping ground are pet friendly.
This would be a great alternative to staying at Sandy Point.
