Wattle Point, Gippsland Lakes (Victoria, Australia)
Kitesurfing at Wattle Point on the Gippsland Lakes
Wattle Point is located on the Gippsland Lakes approximately 280 kms (3:15 drive) east of Melbourne and 19 km (15 mins drive) west of Paynesville.
This spot provides bump-and-jump conditions and works well in NE & SW breezes but will also work in S, SE, and E breezes.
It is quite a protected spot so it could be ideal for beginner and intermediate windsurfers.
If you are on a camping safari, there is a large patch of grass which is an “unofficial” spot you could camp for the night but I think you would get told to move if a park ranger were to find you.
There are a couple of nearby accommodation options however if you want a access to some restaurants and bars, Paynesville would be a better option as a place to stay.
Access & Launching
There is a free car park, grass area to rig and a sandy beach to launch from to the right of the Wattle Point jetty.
This not an ideal spot for kitesurfing due to limited space for rigging.
