Aspendale (Victoria, Australia)
Windsurfing at Aspendale
Aspendale is located about 40 mins drive SE of Melbourne on Port Phillip Bay.
This spot is good for all levels of windsurfers. The conditions are flat water in light wind to bump-and-jump in moderate to high wind and some bay wave chop sailing in high winds.
Aspendale can work in W, NW, WSW or SW and during summer it commonly blows 15 – 20 knots in the afternoons when the southerly sea breeze kicks in.
Anywhere along the beach is good sailing and in a strong breeze the waves kick up on the sandbars for some good jumping.
There can be a strong shore-break and current when the wind gets over 25 knots.
Access, Rigging & Launching
The best spot to park is on the foreshore at the end of Gnotuk Ave.
There is plenty of room for rigging on the wide sandy beach.
In a strong southerly breeze there can be a reasonable shore-break (and some sideways current) to get past when launching.
