Windsurfing & Kitesurfing at Yardie Homestead, Exmouth

This spot is said to be one of the best spots for wave and flat water sailing around the Exmouth area.

Yardie Homestead is located on the West-side of the North-West cape approximately 35 km from the town of Exmouth.

This spot is said to work best in a SSW breeze and the most consistent months are mid September to mid November but right through to March can be good.

The wave sailing out on the bombie is also said to be great.

Closer to shore windsurfers and particularly kitesurfers can find some nice flat water sailing.

If the wind has East in it it, it is said that Bundegi Beach on the opposite side of the peninsula is good.

Other great spots nearby include Graveyards (approx 3 km north)  Mesa (approx 15 km south ), Osprey & Sandy Bay (approx 42 km south) and Yardie Creek (approx. 52 km south).

Hazards

If you sail out to the bombie, watch the wind because if it drops it is a long swim back to shore. Also wear booties as there is sharp reef and lots of sea urchins. Be aware of turtles near the surface of the water. Also watch out for sharks as there are a few around this area.

For accommodation Yardie Homestead Caravan Park or the Ningaloo Lighthouse Holiday Park are good options.

Renting Gear

As far as we are aware there are no centres that offer Windsurfer rentals in the Exmouth area but please let us know if we have missed this.

Exmouth Surf Centre is a Kitesurfing retail, lessons & rental centre 15 km out of Exmouth at the Ningaloo Lighthouse Holiday Park.

Other Activities

For non-sailors or when the wind is light, this place has a lot to offer in the immediate area including surfing, SUPping, fishing, snorkelling, swimming, whale watching, turtles, wildlife spotting, glass bottom boat cruises, scuba diving, mud-crabbing, sand-boarding & mountain bike riding to mention a few.

For those with a boat there is a launching ramp right near this spot.
