Safaga (Egypt)
Safaga is on the coast of the Red Sea in Egypt located 53 km south of Hurghada (which is also a great sailing destination).
The best winds blow from March to October and there are several windsurfing & kiting centres here including ION Club who provide rental gear, lessons and some also have storage facilities.
Sailing is for all levels; the shallow turquoise lagoon is ideal for kids & beginners whilst further out to sea, flat water blasters, freeriders and wave riders will all get their fix.
There is a good variety of accommodation in the area including 5-star hotels which are very inexpensive.
There is a small number of restaurants & bars where you will find some good food and laid-back nightlife. Most of the hotels also have their own restaurants & bars.
A trip to Safaga wouldn’t be complete without a day or two visiting ancient Egyptian ruins including the great Pyramids and temples. Additionally Safaga offers exceptional scuba diving & snorkeling.
