Exmouth (Western Australia)
Windsurfing & Kitesurfing around Exmouth
Exmouth is a long-long way from anywhere; approx 1,300 kms north of Perth.
However its remoteness in the great Australian wilderness on the famous Coral Coast makes it worth the effort to get there.
There are a number of windsurfing & kitesurfing spots around Exmouth such as Sandy Bay for flat water sailing or Yardie Homestead and Graveyards for flat water, bump-and-jump & waves.
Be aware that much of this area is a marine park and there are strict regulations on where you can and can’t sail. Check out the Marine Parks & Reserves for details.
Many of the parks also require an entry fee to access the beach so be sure to carry a bit of cash.
People do sail at Exmouth itself from the town beach however tourists generally come to this area to visit those spots mentioned above.
Here is a video showing some of the area and some good windsurfing footage towards the end…

Getting To Exmouth
Exmouth is 1,270 km (13 hours drive) north from Perth.
If you are going there to windsurf you will need to cart your gear up there as there is no windsurfing hire options there. So you will most likely need to either hire a car / camper or catch a bus as the flights tend to be small planes with limited capacity for baggage.
Integrity Coachlines offer a get-on-get-off service along the coast providing you with the freedom to travel at your own pace and to pick up and drop off at locations according to how long you’d like to explore one place.
Qantas are the only company offering commercial flights which land at Learmonth Airport which is 36 km from Exmouth. You can then get a bus transfer with Exmouth bus charters who will drop you at your Exmouth accommodation for a small fee. From here you would do best to hire a car to get around to the various sailing spots.
Another option to getting up to Exmouth is to jump on a guided road-trip/tour...
