Robe Windsurfing & Kitesurfing
Robe is located approximately 4 hours drive south east of Adelaide (or about 6 hours west of Melbourne) on the Limestone Coast in South Australia
This spot offers several great options for wave sailing for windsurfers and kiters on a clean and predictable beach break. It is one of South Australia’s prime wave sailing spots. Slalom sailing here is also a great option beyond the surf, there is normally good conditions in the swell with spectacular scenery, the easier option for launching with Slalom or wing foiling gear is at the 2nd ramp end of the beach. Robe has plenty of sailing options for various flavours of windsurfing, kitesurfing, foiling, surf and SUP
The best wind directions are SE-SW or N-NE however the the bay is about 10 km long and is curved so you can windsurf anywhere along the coast to get side shore conditions. If the wind is more westerly, Rivoli Bay at Beachport is usually a better option.
The main season is in the summer months from November to March however your may catch some of the locals riding the winter storms.
The most popular access is at the 3rd ramp which is about 10 km north of Robe, located at the end of Steve Woolston Road, which is named after the founder of the famous local Robe surf shop, Steve’s Place. You can drive off the main highway in any type of vehicle and park at the 3rd Ramp carpark or if you have a 4wd you could drive along the beach from the main town beach (2nd Ramp). There is also an option to drive onto the beach at 3rd Ramp, should you want to launch from further up or down the beach.
From Robe, if you are after some flat-water blasting, Lake George is just up the road.
In addition to foiling, windsurfing and kitesurfing, Robe is a great place to just hang out. They are famous for their crayfish and of coarse it is just over an hour’s drive to the famous Coonawarra wine region. There is a local golf course, and there are plenty of attractions like Narracoorte Caves (about 90 mins drive).
The surf beach is also great for swimming, SUP and surfing.
