Inverloch (Victoria, Australia)
Windsurfing & Kitesurfing at Inverloch
Inverloch is located 145 km SE of Melbourne on the South Gippsland Hwy.
It is a popular tourist destination in the warmer months for Melbournites and Gippslanders.
But more importantly, Inverloch has some of the best windsurfing & kitesurfing in Victoria and Australia.
Inverloch is blessed with an incredible inlet called Anderson’s Inlet, perfect for flat-water-blasting, as well as fabulous surf beaches which are also great for wave sailing.
Combine this with regular strong winds and this is a place all windsurfers & kitesurfers should visit.
Inverloch Sailing Spots
Inverloch has several great launching areas which cover almost every wind direction and tidal condition.
For windsurfers:
The Inverloch rotunda launching area is one of the most popular spots for flatwater windsurfing in a SW, S and SE breeze. It is most ideal when the tide is on the rise in a SW breeze otherwise it gets bumpy with wind against tide.
Located further up the inlet about 15 mins from town, Area 45 at Mahers Landing is also a very popular spot . It works in a SE, S, E, W, WSW, NW breeze and is great for beginners and flat-water-blasting.
The Anglers Club is the perfect spot for learning to windsurf with shallow water and plenty of sand bars to rest on.
For wave sailors, launch near Ozone Street to access the Inverloch Surf Beach.
For kitesurfers:
The best place for kitesurfing at Inverloch is the Anglers Club as there is plenty of room (particularly at low tide) to rig and launch from the sandy beach. This is also the perfect spot for beginners and improvers as the water is mostly shallow with plenty of spots to stop and start.
Other spots nearby:
From Inverloch you are only 57km (about 45 mins drive) from another one of Victoria’s epic windsurfing & kitesurfing spots, Sandy Point. Corner Inlet at Sandy Point is renowned for its flat water blasting and speed sailing whilst Sandy Point Surf Beach offers brilliant entry-level and intermediate wave sailing.
Other Activities
With beautiful surf-beaches and the inlet, Inverloch offers a heap of opportunities water-based activities. Paddle in your kayak or SUP around the tranquil waters for the inlet, fish in the surf or from the shore, jetty or a bot in the inlet, ride the waves at the surf beach on your surfboard or SUP are just a few of the things you can do on an Inverloch holiday.
Services
The town isn’t huge however it does have just about everything you would need for a holiday. Unfortunately there are no windsurfing or kitesurfing shops so you will need to bring your own gear & spares.
There is a supermarket, a couple of pubs, a handful of cafes, small family run restaurants, bakery, fish & chips & pizza.
Accommodation
There are no big resorts in Inverloch however you will find some motels, apartments, holiday homes & holiday parks. See more information here >>

Accommodation in Inverloch
Inverloch is a small regional holiday town and doesn't have any large resort-style properties (yet) however there are lots of holiday homes available for rent. There are also a good number of pet friendly properties here.
There is a BIG 4 holiday park located right on Andersons Inlet at the next to the Anglers Club launching area that offers camp sites & cabins. Unfortunately none of the camping parks allow dogs so you will need to rent a pet-friendly house or apartment if you want to take your dog along.
The town is pretty spread-out and if you think you might want to frequent the pub or some of the lovely little restaurants in town it is worth finding a place within walking distance to the town.

I just love this place as a destination!
I am yet to sail at all of the spots around Andersons Inlet however my experiences at the rotunda and angling club have been exceptional.
The town is pretty small however it has a couple of nice pubs, some takeaway shops and small cafe/restaurants…all you need for a holiday here.
The only downside is the lack of dog-friendly accommodation which makes it hard to stay for a night or two without renting a whole house. Luckily it is just a 2 hour drive from Melbourne so day trips are possible.
