Windsurfing, Wing foiling & Kitesurfing at Kings Beach, Bowen
Kings Beach is a spectacular turquoise blue tropical beach located to the west of Bowen township.
The beach faces directly east & looks out towards Gloucester Island.
The beach has a small shore break due to the on-shore breeze which makes for some fun wave riding action and is suited to kitesurfing, windsurfing & wing foiling.
This spot works best in a NE or SE. E is no good as it is directly onshore.
Access, Rigging & Launching
Take the Kings Beach (dirt) road to the end and there you will find parking. You can rig in the car park or down on the beach. There is plenty of room for kites however it may get a bit tight at super high tides.
The depth drops off fairly quickly so getting enough depth for foiling here is easy and the shore break is pretty minimal generally.
Potential Hazards
Be careful on lower tides, as there is reef and rocks on the south end of the beach.
Like most beaches in Far North Queensland, there are a number of potential hazards including poisonous (and deadly) jelly fish (prevalent from Oct to end May), crocodiles & sharks (all year round but not quite as prevalent).
Look out for turtles floundering on the surface.
