Wing Foiling, Windsurfing & Kiting at Queens Beach Park, Bowen
This is a fabulous spot for wing foiling when the wind shifts from SE to ESE in winter and also when the wind blows from the NE & E during summer.
It is ideally suited to foiling in winter as the SE/ESE breeze can be a little gusty due to the headlands that block some of the wind.
However when the wind is a blowen in Bowen this spot works a treat!
The water is blue and clear and warm (so wetsuits are optional in winter). There is a small chop when the wind gets up but overall it is pretty flat.
This spot is also the perfect place to learn to foil on the flat water.
Access, Rigging & Launching
Access this spot via the car park at Queens Beach Park.
There is heaps of grass and shady areas for wing foilers & windsurfers to rig however kites would have to rig on the beach.
Once rigged it is just 20 – 50m to the waters edge.
There is minimal shore break to launching is very easy and the sand drops away fairly steeply so you only need to wade out about 10m before it is deep enough to drop the foil.
Potential Hazards
Beginners, need to beware as you may get pushed along the beach by the cross-shore breeze.
Like most beaches in Far North Queensland, there are a number of potential hazards including poisonous (and deadly) jelly fish (prevalent from Oct to end May), crocodiles & sharks (all year round but not quite as prevalent).
Also be aware that there are a lot of large turtles in the area so keep an eye out for them on the surface and avoid colliding with them.

I have wing foiled here a 2 separate occasions so far and both experiences were quite different.
The first time the wind was quite strong from the ESE and the water was pretty flat with very little shore break.
The next time I sailed here there was more E in the wind but it was lighter. However the shore break was a lot bigger and the water quite lumpy. This being said, there were some nice rolling swells for riding on.
The water was blue and mostly clear (apart from a couple metres along the shore) and warm like a bath. Even with the shore break it was pretty easy to launch.
Overall this spot felt safe, I only encountered one turtle who swam off pretty quickly.
