Lake Connewarre (Victoria, Australia)
Lake Connewarre is located on the Bellarine Peninsula just a short drive out of Geelong in Victoria.
This spot can be good for flat-water-blasting and even speed sailing if the conditions are right regarding wind direction, tide & amount of weed.
The spot works from SE to SW (best being SSE though to SW). A weed fin is highly recommended.
The lake has a reasonably tidal rise and fall and the water is mostly salty although fresh water flows in from the Barwon river at the western-end of the lake. The water is relatively clear despite the bottom of the lake being thick-black-mud.
At times there is excessive weed growth which can make sailing conditions difficult and sometimes a bit smelly. Most of the time you can get past the weed into the deeper water where it is relatively weed free.
When the weed is at-bay and in the right spots it keeps the water glassy flat for some superb speed sailing.
Access/Launching
You can launch from the end on Mollers Lane, its a bit of a track at the end and there is generally not as much weed on-shore with however it is still fairly shallow.
The other option is to launch from Binsmeads Lane which is the next street along to the east.
In each case the water is shallow at the launch and requires a bit of a walk out to the deeper water. Once out there the water remains deep enough. Be aware there are a few rocks in the water in the shallows.
