Point Ormond (Victoria, Australia)
Point Ormond is located at the north-eastern end of Port Phillip Bay near Melbourne.
This spot is a great bump-and-jump location in a N, NW,W,SW,S breeze (NW & SSE being best as it is dead-cross-shore). Northerlies can be quite gusty until you get well past the point; Green Point just a few kms south is a better option for northerlies. SW are not so good as they are directly on-shore however if you head NW in this breeze once you clear the point you can get away from the land.
The more W it gets, the better Elwood gets as it is less gusty and has a an increasing swell if you are after some bumps.
There is no kitesurfing allowed at this location as there is no safe place to rig & launch however kiters often cruise-bye who set out from Brighton or St Kilda.
Quite flat, unlike other spots in the bay on Southerlies.
There is a nice grass rigging area close to the car park, public toilets, a cafe nearby and drinking water.
The sandy beach is nice and wide and the water depth increases gently also making this a good place for beginners.
All of the car parking in the area is quite expensive.
There is a kids playground and BBQ facilities near this spot.
