Stingray Point, Mallacoota (VIC, Australia)
Stingray Point is located on the lower lake at Mallacoota (about 1 km out of town) just past Angophora Drive.
I had read about this spot on Seabreeze however I think in recent times the installation of a bike track has removed the ability to park along Lakeside Drive.
There is however a small dirt pull-off right on the point where you could park a couple of vehicles but that’s about it.
This spot would offer some flat-water-blasting and bump-end-jump with best wind directions being NE and SW (however could also work in a N, NW & S breeze).
I don’t think this spot would be very friendly for beginners as you need to wade through quite a bit of weed to get to the clear water.
Access, Rigging & Launching
Access via Lakeside Drive with a small dirt parking spot on the water side of the road just past Angophora Drive heading away from town.
There is a small grassy area for rigging and the launching area is a sandy beach and the water has a lot of weed for about 50 m before getting to the deeper water (the things we have to do to get the goods!)
There is no room for rigging & launching kites here and I don’t think this spot would work for any foils due to lack of depth and excessive weed.
Potential Hazards
I think given the name of this place (Stingray Point) and not sure what else might be in the weed so booties would probably be a good option.
Just be aware of shallow water and sandbars to the right as you approach Rabbit Island.
