Torquay Point Danger
This spot has long been a go-to destination for windsurfing & kitesurfing wave sailors.
It is the home ground of windsurfing legend Jason Polakow!
But you don’t have to be an expert to sail here! In fact it is great place for beginners & intermediates particularly in a southerly breeze as the point & reef shepherd the bay providing lovely flat water. Add a few rolling swells into the bay and you have the perfect place to get the feel of riding your first waves.
These days you don’t see too many windsurfers here unless the wind is nuking but there are plenty of wing dingers (wing foilers) and a couple of kites.
The best wind direction is SW for flat water conditions however this spot can work in anything with S or E in it.
Access, Rigging & Launching
There is free parking on the point and plenty of shaded grassy areas for rigging windsurfers & wing foils. Kiters will need to rig on the beach.
Potential Hazards
It isn’t called Point Danger for no reason. The point consists of rocky reef that protrudes above the water line at low tides so this is an obvious place to steer clear of particularly if you are on a foil. The swell can also get big at times (2 – 3 m) which can create some hazardous shore breaks.

The town is a popular seaside holiday destination so there are plenty of accommodation options, restaurants, bars and cafes.
It is also one of the most popular surfing areas and is home to many of the big surf brands like Quicksilver, Ripcurl, Strapper and more. The surf outlet stores are a great place to grab that essential beach item.
