Marlo (Victoria, Australia)
Windsurfing at Marlo on the Snowy River
Whilst Marlo at the river mouth of the Snowy River is not high on the windsurfing list however it offers some good safe sailing and a nice speed strip which works in a WSW and also a SW breeze.
The speed run is relatively short and it can get a bit shallow from time-to-time however it is a lot of fun if you want to go fast!
Because this spot is in a small confined body of water that is mostly shallow, it is a good spot for beginners as well.
There is nowhere to rig and launch for kitesurfers so this spot isn’t really suitable for kitesurfing.
Access & Launching
Marlo is approximately 380km east or Melbourne (4.5 hours drive) so it is a long way to go as a destination. However it could work well with a road trip through East Gippsland on-route to the NSW South Coast.
There is free car parking and a good grassy rigging area and sandy beach to launch from to the right of the jetty near the Marlo Angling Club.
Where To Stay
If you decide to stay for a night or two there are a few options for accommodation in Marlo including a hotel (which is adjacent to the launching spot), some cabin rentals, a motel, a caravan park and a camping ground.
The Marlo Caravan Park offers powder and unpowered sites, on-site cabins & caravans (some with ensuites), camp kitchen and is pet friendly.
The Marlo Hotel has a bistro or the Snowy River Cafe offers quick bites.
